Hi chess fans,
I wrote a connector to connect my Mac to a bluetooth DGT board and record the played games in PGN.
I'm thinking about porting my code to an Android/iOS App and I was wondering if other people would be interested in using such an app?
Thanks for your feedback
Not a DGT owner, but still on the lookout for that, and yes, it would definitely be interesting.
However, at the moment the situation is that using a smart board on Lichess with any software other than Ape, one has very little incentive, as they will be forced to play as a BOT account.
Meanwhile, said Ape Chess app has just increased the price of their DGT driver to 60 bucks, while enjoying the very special position of being the only software allowed here... but that's another story
I am owner of DGT. It's senseless for 99% of online games, unfortunately. Maybe it makes sense for some friendly game with long control. But for blitz it's useless. DGT board is for analysis and game record, not for online blitz. Beside there's already existing moblie app with possibility to play on lichess (

@lambdacalculus , this would be an app that would be able to record PGN for games played face to face using the DGT board? If so, that would definitely be interesting.
I might be wrong, but I don't think either of the Android apps that I'm aware of that can hood into the DGT board (Acid Ape Chess and Chess for Android) have this capability.
Acid Ape records games played OTB and can auto annotate them, analyse them, etc etc.
@Ellis_McPickles - Nice! I looked, but hadn't seen that capability before, thanks! (Obviously didn't look closely enough...)
Still think that the app that lambdacalculus is proposing would be of interest for a good number of people, especially for those that can't/won't invest in AAC (which is a great program, btw, but not inexpensive for the DGT drivers).
Well it's been discussed at length obviously, but AAC is a very complete chess suite, especially in its latest versions. The DGT functionality is pretty much an add-on. I personally think it's worth it, a lot of people don't.
@pwwaringIt would be mainly to record games played on DGT between two players face to face.
I needed an app to analyse the games I play on my DGT with my friends, and AAC is overkill/to expensive for me. Just needed a PGN that I can for example import into Lichess.
Plus, sometimes AAC can't keep up with fast play on DGT. Trying to reconstruct a valid game from GTB board events is not an easy task and I came up with a pretty good result.
Very very interesting. Acid Ape chess was a wonderfull software, but now is a incomprehensively expensive software.
When it been free was incredible, 20€ it'd ok. But now you must pay 10-20€ for AAC and later 60€!!!!? for connect DGT board.
