Tournament Idea

People said that I must open this topic in this forum, so Im doing it second time

arena tournament where everyone has equal chances to win
If 2 players have same rating they play normal chess
If rating difference is 100 points stronger player starts game without 1 random pawn
If difference 200 points -2 pawns
If 300 points -1pice, knight or bishop
If 400 points -1pice and 1 pawn
And if 500 or more -1 rock

Time to make a new account and get rook odds against everyone.

Ok the main problem is rating does not equal skill
Rating ~ skill
You would just give material odds which would make it unbalanced and cause higher rated players not to play knowing they get the raw end of the stick.
Why though? The answers you got to your first thread we're putting it pretty clear.

A huge amount of sandbagging would be the only result of this. Also, I can agree on what @for_cryingout_loud just said, I can be down a queen and a rook and with all due respect, I'd probably win against someone much lower rated than me, whilest I can be up a queen and a rook against someone with +2500 rating and they'll find resources I miss out on. Material imbalances are not a solution to guarantee a more fair arena.

Imagine tournament like this. Someone must win it right? or just have good tournament. Who would be it?
I think players who can think during the game and not beating opponents because of knowledge

Also if would be very interesting to see how chess masters will beat strong players without pawns or pieces

Against sandbagging I think I have solution - There must be different rating system and everyone must start the tournament with same rating
That would not make it more fair, then some are just massively overrated, and some extremely underrated. That'd be even more unfair than the system we have now. An absolute beginner would face a GM without even knowing about it. He'd stood no chance. Also, then the matarial imbalances would not make any sense. I'm sry but I don't think this is working out.
I dont say that it must replace regular tournaments

Also it is little bit unfair when 1500 rated player plays against GM and has not even extra piece :d
@grendizer #4 you want a whole new rating every tournament are you paying for the cost of that that would go up monthly and also if everyone starts at the same rating you would be just playing normal if players had a small rd factor. And with a high rd factor your rating would jump and make one game even then 1 pawn and then rook and so on and there wont be a good middle ground

"Imagine tournament like this. Someone must win it right? or just have good tournament. Who would be it?

The underrated player would win since they would have the easiest postions.

Also if you want a gamemode that test skill not theory there'a 960
I think a "time odds" mode might be more entertaining.

Another +1 to this idea. We played at our local club around new years. We call it "What are the odds" or something like that. Very fun. I assume you'd have to make it unrated so playing just for tournament points.
