Is there such a game......for those who are constrained by the two dimensions of it......Where pieces can climb up and down.and the set looks like a cube .....idk...is there such a concept....
Hi,
Star Trek got around to it back in the 60s, with some interesting/funny results. See odditymall.com/star-trek-tridimensional-chess-set
But, generally, three-dimensional chess has been investigated quite a lot. It even has a Wikipedia page: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three-dimensional_chess
They mention quite a few, but I'm sure if I plough through the Encyclopedia of Chess Variants, I'll find a few more.

You can still buy a 3-D chess set. For Trekies. There is a Star Trek 3-D chess set model available also. - :]

here I was, thinking it was a 3DPM correspondence game played by someone who was traveling by plane.
That's something I've done in the past, except I was making my moves from airports, not from the airplanes.

That was also my first idea after reading the title. Some flights already offer Internet connectivity so it might be possible, I guess.

So this is an idea for a Lichess tournament: 3 teams on three planes, playing against each other.
For added bonus, the #AnarchyChess team will fly on a Boeing 737 Max, for extra "holy hell" factor.
