Team Chat?

So, this may not be an original idea, and I may have missed a post somewhere, so who knows, it may not be the first time it was asked...

Is there any way maybe we could implement live chat (i.e. the same sort of chat code that's in the game windows) onto the team pages? Or would we become too concerned about kibitzing? I think it would be a relatively nice feature in order to make new friends to play with, though.
There used to be a really powerful chat system, but it was vetoed. We'd need a better implementation if a global chat system like that were to be reintroduced.
I agree, Lichess should be more social, like a Chess community. We should be able to interact with each other easier.
#2, that's not the full story. We had a world-class chat system persistent across pages, but there was massive resistance to it for various reasons inherent in having a chat system and multiple calls for removal.

When Thibault announced it would be removed, Lichess was favourable compared to YouTube, which is infamous for forcing new things on its users. It's like all of Lichess -- or at least, the overwhelming majority, rejoiced at its removal. I wouldn't describe it as a 'veto' (implying it came from the top), but an effort from the bottom up.
And I think a global chat system might be inherently bad, because of the ridiculous amount of trolling that could be done. That's why I'm asking about team chats. If you are joining a team, you are joining them (presumably) to play with them, chat with them (there are team forums) and maybe even learn from/with them. Would it be bad then, to have a chat system specifically limited to members of teams you join? If someone is causing trouble, a team moderator can remove them from the team, for instance. I think it would be both grass roots (because it allows teams to control their own chats rather than forcing global moderators to keep the peace) and it also limits the sheer numbers of people that might be in a chat room at once, making it less spammy. Thoughts?
Disclaimer: I wasn't around when the global chat system was in place.

I think reimplementing chat limited to the scope of teams would perhaps be a good idea, though if I recall correctly, this was in fact a feature of the previous chat system and that didn't work quite as well either, probably due to the lax team requirements and the sheer number of people in some of them.

What I *would* like would be the ability to form tiny group chats which can be independent of teams. There are a few others on lichess I like to hang out with who've taken to the informal hobby of hanging out in the spectator chat of one's last game, or a particularly engaging game going on, and finding just whose spectator chat everyone is hanging out in is a bit troublesome at times.

Of course, the problem with this is that it could give an unfair advantage to players in a game. Perhaps that chat could be hidden from one who's currently in a game, but that seems rather inelegant.

There doesn't seem to be an easy solution to this problem. The only winning move is not to play. :/
Spectator chat isn't shown to the players until after the game.
Maybe a feature then if someone you are following is *watching* a game but not playing, it still gives you the ability to watch that game (rather than only watch games when they are playing)? That might be a possible solution rather than any sort of larger chat system.
You misunderstand, Clarkey - One could form a group chat with some other players and get input on their current game.
We could call all theses chats sections the Analyses room, where people can talk about a game or analyse it together over the side chat. Talking while playing disrupts the concentration of our rated game. The more chat features there are, the more people are spread thin in small groups. It might even become a risky business of maintaining multiple chat rooms. I believe a Forum and an Analyses room is gravy enough for a game of chess.
